Our Process

Trenton Forging produces durable and anti-corrosive forged components for the marine industry. We use our own impression die forging technique and are capable of producing a wide range of complex, symmetrical and/or asymmetrical forgings. Our entire forging process takes between 5 to 11 weeks, depending on the volume and complexity of the components we’re creating. Our entire process includes:

    1. Tooling Creation: First, our highly qualified engineers will develop custom tooling based on blueprints and/or CAD models. Our team can also reverse engineer components using advanced 3D laser scanning technology. Custom tooling and/or sample forgings can be shipped to you within two to three weeks.
    2. Raw Material Procurement: After a final design has been approved, we’ll get to work purchasing the correct materials for your component. This process may take between one to three weeks. Once we receive the materials, we’ll cut them into billets using our energy-efficient CNC cold saws.
    3. Preheating & Preforming:  Before we forge your components, we’ll preheat the billet(s) to a predetermined temperature, and then shape (preform) the billet(s) to fit into the profile of your custom tooling.
    4. Forging: The total impression die forging process, including preforming and cooling, will take around one to three days depending on the volume of components we’re producing as well as  part complexity. At Trenton Forging, our state-of-the-art facility includes air-lift, gravity-drop hammers and fully automated press forging lines.
    5. Shot Blasting: Once all forgings have been cooled, they go through the shot blasting process to clean the part surface and remove any scale. If your application requires heat treatment, the component will then be heat treated and shot blasted again.
    6. QA & Inspections: Before we ship your forgings back to you, our team will inspect all forged components by hand to ensure quality. We can also provide magnetic particle inspections if required by the application.

Not only did they find a solution, but they did it in a timely manner. James W. Barnthouse
