Racing / Performance
To say that we have a unique perspective on the racing and performance world would be an understatement. For years, our forging company has been the top producer of USA-made performance connecting rods, currently used in NASCAR, offshore boat racing, off-road, NHRA, and more.
What started as a sponsorship for local racers by Trenton Forging evolved into a complete additional division: Autosport Development LLC., a professional race team and race vehicle building facility. We’ve competed in professional racing series since the 1990s in classes such as the Pirelli World Challenge, IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Series, and the esteemed Trans-Am series.

Our Process
Trenton Forging is known for having some of the quickest turnaround times in the forging industry. From custom tooling creation to final inspections, our process only takes several weeks to complete. The timeline for your specific project depends on order volume and the complexity of the parts we’re producing for you. Our complete forging process is outlined below:
-
- Develop Custom Dies: Our engineers must create custom dies (tooling) before we produce any components. These dies feature an impression, or cavity, in the shape of your specific component. We build these dies based on CAD models, blueprints, or sample components you provide. All sample forgings and custom tooling can be shipped to you within two to three weeks.
- Procure Raw Materials: Once the custom tooling has been created and approved, we will procure raw materials from one of our trusted steel mills. We order all steel in the correct grade and diameter for your project. After we receive virgin steel, we’ll use our energy-efficient CNC cold saws to cut them into billets. The procurement process can take one to three weeks, depending on estimated shipping times from our steel mills.
- Preheat & Preform Billets: We use an induction heating unit to heat all billets to a predetermined temperature and preform them until they fit into your custom tooling.
- Forging: The preforms are then compressed using air-lift, gravity-drop hammers or forging presses until the final forging is produced. The entire forging process, including preforming, forging, and cooling, takes between one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of your project.
- Shot Blast Cleaning: Once the forging has been produced, the flashing is trimmed, and the component is left to cool in a controlled environment. Then, we clean the part’s surface and remove scale via shot blast cleaning. This process only takes one day to complete unless post-forging heat treatments are required. If heat treatments are required, it could take up to two weeks to complete.
- Quality Inspections: Before we ship your forgings to you, our team will hand-inspect each component to ensure quality. We also provide magnetic particle inspections for applications that require them.
